LCF Community Center Preschool
Welcomes 2013-2014 School Year
August 26, 2013 - The La Canada Flintridge Community Center Preschool is gearing up for a fun-filled year of play and social development. “Our entire staff has been very busy this summer preparing our school to welcome our new and returning preschoolers for the 2013-2014 year," said Director Danielle Caputo. "We are very proud of our creative curriculum both in the classroom and through our additional programs offered, such as music and gardening.”
The preschool is an extension of the Community Center, offering a half-day program for children ages 3-5. The preschool strives to provide a warm, safe and nurturing atmosphere with a wide variety of age appropriate activities designed to promote the social, intellectual, physical and emotional aspects of learning. Teachers work to create an environment for the children to learn through active exploration and discovery. We stretch their imaginations and extend their learning by stimulating their thinking.
Manipulative toys, creative experiences, group time, floor toys, blocks, paints, handmade Play-Doh, sand and water are offered on a daily basis. Particular emphasis is placed on helping develop social skills such as talking, helping, listening, sharing and negotiating.
Appreciation of the outdoor environment is encouraged as well. The outdoor yard includes water and sand play, ride-on toys, a miniature Western town, a climbing structure, and an outdoor art studio. And back this year, Master Gardener Ms. Milli will teach children the benefits of growing their own food in the preschool garden. Additionally, the school will continue its fantastic music curriculum in conjunction with Dance and Jingle.
The preschoolers are offered a wide range of after-school classes available at the adjacent Community Center of LCF, such as all-star sports, cooking, fun with clay, fairytales and folklore, and dance. These classes are designed to further enhance the preschool experience and are open only to children currently enrolled in the preschool.
The LCFCC Preschool is supported by an active parent board, an advisory and fundraising group that coordinates parent volunteers for social and community events for the school. This year's parent board includes Suzanne Jensen (President), Lauren Bender (Vice President of External Programming), Julie Erckenbrack (Vice President of Internal Programming), Angela Marchetti (Vice President of Communications), Jill Pieterse (Secretary), Erin Owen (Treasurer), and Dorey Huston (Publicity).
The preschool's annual fundraiser, the Western Round-Up, will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2013. The Round-Up is a carnival geared toward young children and it includes pony rides, a petting zoo and many different western-themed games. Parent board members Aubri Gibson, Jill Shah and Ashley Tearston will coordinate the event and Yvette Caudillo and TJ Deaton will chair the silent auction.
The school is located at 4469 Chevy Chase Drive. For more information, contact Danielle Caputo at (818) 790-8687 or visit www.lcfccpreschool.com.
